Presell like a pro

If you want to make more money as an affiliate, you must presell.

First, what is preselling? Well, it is an art. And it’s also a science. The goal is to get your reader prepped to make a purchase. Then you send them to the site that sells what you’ve prepared them for. And if it’s done properly, the process is completely sub-conscious.

In a nutshell, you provide value. And give them a link to the product you’re preselling. In a second we’ll talk about how to do actually it. First, it’s important to understand why we do it. Some major benefits of this process:

  • Preselling creates trust – And gaining the trust of your readers helps them want to click your links. And the more clicks you get the more sales you’ll make.
  • It disarms your reader – Nobody likes to be sold something. By not doing that to them, your reader is less defensive. And in turn they read to understand what you’re saying. So your content get absorbed.
  • It puts them in a buying mood – Now they’re open to hearing what you’re telling them. Being open means, they are open to everything you give them. For example, the sales message on the page you’re linking to. And being open to the information there means they are much more likely to buy.
  • You make more money – They arrive at the product website prepped to buy. Open to the sales message and feeling safe. The only possible result is more sales!
  • It increases customer satisfaction – People like to make their own buying decisions. Instead of feeling pressured or “sold”. So they are happier with their purchase.
  • Preselling increases your bottom line – A satisfied customer doesn’t ask for a refund. Less refunds means more affiliate money stays in your pocket.

Obviously, it’s important to presell. You make more money. And produce happier customers. It’s a win-win-win!

OK, so how do you do it?

OK, now you understand why it’s so important. And I hope you’re resolved to being preselling, too. So, it’s time to break down how it works. As I mentioned earlier, it’s both an art and a science.

Part 1 – The art of it

Effective preselling requires gaining your readers trust in order for them to let down their guard. And the only method of doing this is to give exceptional value to your readers. Now, providing enough info to be useful, but still making them want more – that’s the art of it. So you send them to the product website with a hunger for more of what the product provides. And because you’ve gained trust, they’re more receptive to the sales message and more likely to buy.

It’s also a science

There are also several key elements that need to be included.

One of these key elements is the presentation of the information. You need to know where you’re going before you begin. Your end goal is to make a sale of the product you’re preselling. There are two ways to accomplish this with great content. One way is to give them enough info to whet the appetite, but not enough to satisfy it. Or you can give them so much information that it feels overwhelming to do what you’re talking about. Whichever method, you send them to a product website that solves the problem you just created.

But you can’t link to your affiliate link. Instead, you use a direct link to the product website. That’s because nobody likes to click on affiliate links. But how are you going to get credit for the sale, if you don’t include your affiliate link? Well, that’s part of the science of this whole process. You use the “covert cookie” strategy.

You also want to link to the sales page from inside your article’s content. It’s habitual to click on words and phrases that are hyperlinked. And if the words you hyperlink relate, your reader will naturally click them for more information.

What you have now is a super powerful system for affiliate marketing success.

Unfortunately…

Doing all of this right is really hard! Let’s look at the skills required to pull it off: Great content. First and foremost, you have to be able to write a great article that provides valuable information. To do that you have to have enough information to be valuable and be able to present it in a useful way. Writing to presell. First, you have to give good information. You also have to present the info in a way that provides real value. And still leave them wanting more. The other approach is to reveal a self-evident problem through the information.

Picking products. You also need to determine what products you’ll be preselling. If you can manage to get the article written well. Your efforts are completely wasted if you don’t pick a winning product.

Technical skills. And finally, you need the technical know-how to embed your image tag and make sure you get credit for the sale. This is actually pretty simple – just embed a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image and set your affiliate link as the “source” of the image. (But if you mess it up, your referrals won’t be tracked.)
